Oliver is a Japanese American filmmaker based in the Chicago metropolitan area. His education started with Bachelors & Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering which took him to engineering at General Electric and Tesla. Dealing with massive problems stretched his perspective. At first, this affected understanding of the world at large, then it grew into an idea about his place in it.

Big ideas take time. He switched careers to write and direct narrative films and moved to the UK for formal training at the London Film School. His graduation film, Places We Knew, is a proof of concept for a feature. The story is about creating one's identity where cultures overlap, specifically told through a Japanese American lens.
